We offer a variety of courses and workshops in herbal healing and plant spirit medicine. Please check out the workshops that are being offered this season and contact us for further information. If you would like to register for a workshop please print out a registration form, send or email it to the address provided, and you will be reserved a space in class. We are located 25 minutes from Brattleboro, 12 minutes from Putney, VT, and 30 minutes from Keene, NH. From 91, take exit 4 to Putney, a left after the ramp, and a right onto Main St. (Rt. 5) which will take you into Putney. In Putney, take a left at the General Store (*** burned down, now a large metal fence), and follow this road for about 10 minutes. It will turn into Westminster West Rd. At the yellow sign that looks like an upsidown Y, take a sharp right onto Patch Rd. Follow Patch Rd. for about 5 minutes until 373 Patch Rd. on the right. Follow the drive to the yurt.

Folk Medicinal Herbal Preparations
Come learn how to make your own herbal medicines at home.
In this class we will discuss and make herbal tinctures, salves, tea blends, herbal glycerites, herbal oils, flower essences, decoctions, compresses, and poultices. We will discuss harvesting herbs, where to get quality organic herbs, and how to dose herbs safely. We will cover herbs for some common ailments as we create our preparations, as well as address specific herbs for each of you. Handouts and materials will be provided in class.

Herbal Healing with Vermont's Wild Plants
Learn how to identify and prepare local herbs for medicinal use. In this class we will cover herbal basics for healing yourself and your loved ones using plants common to Vermont. We will discuss rare, invasive, and common plants that have been important medicine to native people, and those that were brought by Europeans during colonization. Tips for identification and preparation will be discussed. Come learn about the plants you will see emerging this spring! Join us for this evening workshop and learn ancient practices of folk herbal healing for your home and family using your local plants.

Tree Magic and Medicine
Come learn about tree magic, medicine, lore, and love! We will talk about the biology of trees, identifying different species, and how to use them in medicine and magic. Learn how to treat common colds, infections, fevers and the flu, as well as other ailments with the bark, leaves, berries, and flowers of these magnificent trees! We will also discuss ways of connecting to the tree spirits and devas. Explore the mysterious magical power that each of these trees hold which can be used to bring you protection, healing, strength, or transformation. Leave with your own magical or medicinal tree blend to use at home!

Yemaya - Herbal Healing Baths & Spiritual Bathing
Join us as we honor the African goddess and Orisha, Yemaya. Yemaya is a mother goddess of the ocean and the waters of life. We will begin by telling her stories, calling her in through poetry, dance, and song. We'll explore plants sacred to the element of water, including seaweeds and how we can use them in healing baths and medicine. We will make herbal blends using salts, oils, and flowers to use in baths. Sage will discuss specific herbs and herbal oils to use in baths and spiritual bathing specific to what each student is needing. Come join us as we call in the spirit of Yemaya, and enjoy plants sacred to the waters of life.

Aphrodite's Aphrodisiacs - Herbs for Love
Join us for a sexy evening of journeying with Aphrodite's herbs. You will be introduced to plants used for increasing the energy of love, sensual pleasure, and opening the heart. Come taste some of our most lovely aphrodisiac herbs, learn how to prepare them and blend them. Come fill up with some of Aphrodite's magic, and experience many plants sacred to Aphrodite, such as Damiana, Jasmine, Yohimbe, Hibiscus, Egyptian Blue Lotus, and Rose. Come enjoy the world of tempting and delicious aphrodisiac herbs and elixers!

Shamanic Journeying with Plants
Join us in the garden for an evening of journeying with the spirits of the plants. Learn ways of communicating with the spirits of trees and healing herbs through energy exchange and traditional practices of shifting consciousness. We will discuss the use of shifting herbs, sacred resins, and drumming to facilitate journeying. Shamanic journeying with plants is the oldest form of plant medicine and our most ancient spiritual practice. This workshop is for beginning and intermediate herbalists or those that want to learn more about shamanic plant medicine.

Pan - Foraging for Wild Food Plants
Join us as we honor the Greek god Pan, god of nature, the wild wood, mountains, fields, and groves. In honor of the god of pastures and wild foods, we will explore edible wild plants of New England. We will begin by telling the story of Pan, inviting him in through song, flute, and offerings. In class we will share a feast of edible plants, learning how to harvest each one, and explore their nutritional and medicinal gifts. We will also discuss giving back to the land, and the benefits to our environment from eating wild-harvested edible plants. Join us as we honor the fields of greens we have outside our doors for food and medicine!

Herbal Healing for Stress and Depression
In this workshop we will discuss various plants used to calm and heal the nervous system, reduce stress, lift/transform depression, and rebalance the mind. We will prepare and drink these powerful herbal allies, discussing how to prepare and use them daily. Blue Vervain, Kava, St. John's Wort, Passionflower, Skullcap, Ginseng, Ashwagandha, Linden, Oatstraw, Motherwort, and others, will be tasted and explored. You will learn how to treat headaches, muscle tension and pain, anxiety, mild and severe depression, panic attacks, low self-confidence and nervousness, as well as general stress and exhaustion. This class is helpful to anyone, regardless of what your nervous system takes on daily.

Pele - Hawaii's Healing Plants
Join us as we honor the Volcano goddess Pele, and explore the sacred plants of Hawaii and the Pacific. We will begin by calling in Pele through story, poetry, and offerings. Sage will discuss her experiences in Hawaii training with two Hawaiian herbalists, and share stories about the sacred plants of Hawaiian medicine. We will discuss Hawaiian plant traditions and spiritual practices of using plants for healing, as well as methods of preparation. In class we'll taste and discuss Kava-kava (Awa), Passionflower, Hibiscus, Noni, Blue Vervain, Cayenne (Chilli Pepper), Turmeric, Ginger, Watercress, Ferns, and Seaweeds in class.

Taught by Opeyemi Parham, a retired MD, and Sage Maurer, herbalist and director of The Gaia School of Healing. Join us for an introductory talk focused on understanding the body from a western medical and a spiritual perspective. In this discussion we will be introducing holistic and Western anatomy & physiology through the subject of the immune system, allergies (food, environmental), and autoimmune issues. This upcoming winter workshop series is an opportunity for natural medicine practitioners and individuals to learn more about the body's systems and how they function.

Kwan Yin (Guan Yin) - Healing the Heart with Plants
Join us as we honor the Asian goddess of compassion and heart opening, Kwan Yin. She is the well known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion in Buddhism, as well as the protector of women and mothers. We will begin by telling her story, and inviting her in to our circle through poetry, prayer, and offerings. We will explore plants sacred to our hearts, both as physical and spiritual medicine. Some of the heart opening and tonic plants we will experience in class are Hawthorn, Motherwort, Linden, Rose, and the stronger heart medicines Foxglove and Lily of the Valley. Return home with some prayers and invocations to Kwan Yin, as well as some plants to use at home for gentle opening of the heart.

Sedna - Herbs for Grief and Releasing
Join us as we honor the Inuit goddess of the ocean, Sedna, who dwells in the darkness of ocean depths. Her story is one of grief and pain turned into compassionate giving. We'll begin by telling her story and invite her in to our circle through ritual and prayer. We'll explore plants used to help us release held grief, relieve emotional pain, and soothe our hearts as they open more deeply to compassion. We will work with individual plants in class, inviting in their spirits and medicine. Students will be given some herbs to work with at home, as well as the story of Sedna, and a token of hers to return home with. Join us as we discuss releasing grief and pain with support of specific plant allies.

Sage L. Maurer teaches all workshops, unless guest teachers are specified.
Sage Maurer is the director of The Gaia School of Healing in Westminster, VT. She is an independent practitioner and teacher of herbal healing, plant spirit medicine, shamanism, deep ecology, and ethnobotany. In 2001, Sage founded The Gaia School of Healing in Boston, Massachusetts, and has trained over 130 apprentices in the past 10 years in New England, Austin, and Hawaii. Sage holds a degree in anthropology with a concentration in ethnobotany from The University of Hawaii, and a Masters degree in environmental education. Sage is currently teaching year round in Vermont and Boston, Massachusetts, where she is offering apprenticeships and workshops throughout the year.Come learn to walk a path of magic and healing with her and our green friends!
